MULE DRIVER HURT AT NEWSAM MINES
After being thrown from a mule and
dragged for more than fifty feet, Candida Ricca, 6215 South Adams
Street, a driver at Orchard Mines, of the Newsam company, below Hollis,
was taken to the St. Francis hospital this morning in a serious
condition. It is expected that he will recover from his injuries.
He was riding a mule at the head of a
heavy mine car when the accident occurred. The mule reared up, threw
him in front of the car, and then started to run away. Ricca was
dragged by the car.
When he was picked up by employes
of the company he was a mass of bruises, and is thought to have
suffered severe internal hurts. Because of his condition it was said
that it was impossible to take an X-ray to determine his injuries. His
legs are thought to have been broken. A police ambulance brought him to
Peoria in record time from the mine.
