THE RICCA FAMILY HOMEPAGE

Regarding:
Rosa Maria Cavallo in Ricca

Maria Rosa Cavallo in Ricca was born in Busano, aboutan hour by car from Forno Canavese. I have no idea how she and brother Batista met Candidoand Quinta Ricca in Cavallo from Forno. That's right, a brother and a sister married asister and a brother. Well, I guess it made for fewer in-laws.....Here is some useful history that I have derived fromthe attached documents. Her tree entries, as usual on this site, are at the bottom of thepage.

Note that the handwriting is hers. I do not have theoriginal document; Grandma Catherine went to the Post Office in Peoria and made me a xeroxand mailed it.

Rosa was a truly remarkable woman, painfully young, endlessly courageous, with fiery red hair and eyes like the sky.

Now, let's study another document, and from it, get thedates straight:

The passport was issued on April 11, 1903. Rosa Cavallo in Ricca andAunt Jennie (age 5) departed Sulla Bruā in Frazione Villafranco di Forno Canavese, and  traveled overland 14 days by horse and carriage to Le Havre, France, and leftthe port at  Le Havre on April 26, 1903. They disembarked on Ellis Island in New YorkCity on May 5, 1903. Aunt Jennie told me she remembered her mother's constant seasickness;and she remembered standing on the deck and seeing the Statue of Liberty as they steamedinto the harbor.
