The Brown home.

This is the original Keith house, for which Keithsburg was named. The front part was built in 1838; the lower part with the bay windows was built a generation later. It has a tunnel to a pit in the garage, which was used as an Underground Railroad station during the Civil War. This house is now on the Historical Registry. Mayor Brown used to sit in the east bay window having breakfast, and the door was always open to citizens needing something.

Rear, Left to Right: Jason, Ireta, Darlene, Dwight. Seated: Dale and Jetta. 1935-ish.
